Jazz Retreat

The Melville Jazz Retreat was started in 2004 as a place where students and teachers alike could focus on the musical skill of improvisation in both a fun and educational setting.  Since the closure of the Saskatchewan Summer School of the Arts, there have been few opportunities for  area students to practice the necessary skills to be successful in the art of improvisation, in both the instrumental and vocal areas.

Going into the 7th year of the retreat, we have had a lot of great feedback as to how much students have learned and the incredible faculty we have teaching and performing at the retreat. We invite any age of student to come out; in the past few years, we have had students ranging in age from 12 through to the 70's.  You are never too old or young to learn!!

Youth and adults are invited to register for classes instructed by world-class recording jazz artists from across North America.  Sessions will be held for string, brass, percussion, piano and vocal in improvisation, jazz appreciation, theory and  master classes.

We have a great faculty coming again this year and are looking forward to a successful retreat!!
